for Experiential Education brings together educators involved in Service
Learning as well as Cooperative Education and Internships, both in local
areas and internationally. It gives members the opportunity to meet
in special interest groups that address particular issues and bring together
individuals in similar positions.
Campus Compact National Center for Community Colleges www.mc.maricopa.edu/academic/compact provides a variety of supports for those engaged in Service Learning. These include conferences and a series of publications, such as From the Margin to the Mainstream, the faculty role in advancing service learning on community colleges.
COOL (Campus Outreach Opportunity League) www.cool2serve.org Cool is an organization of students who work in their own local communities to develop and run service programs. COOL stands for the values of Student Voice, Social Change, Inclusiveness, and Quality Community Service.
Scale (Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education) www.unc.edu/depts/scale Scale is a student organization that works in the areas of adult and childhood literacy in local communities. Students in Scale address diversity issues, technology and participatory education techniques as well as community partnerships and advocacy.
NYLC (The National Youth Leaders Council) www.nylc.org has a mission to engage people and schools in their communities through service and leadership.
The Corporation for National Service provides information on a variety of subjects, including how to develop a tutoring program, working with local government on local issues and working in Welfare to Work Initiatives. www.nationalservice.org
UCLA Service learning Clearinghouse Project www.gseis.ucla/slc has helpful information on a variety of resources including grant writing, finding funding sources and training.

In the past, BCC has been involved in a variety of conferences on Service
learning, including
Southern Regional Conference on Student Community Service, February
6th - 8th,1998.
Along with Professors Patricia Kalata and Christine Jensen, two BCC
students, Alisha Schwartz and Christie Strayhorne attended the conference
in Houston, Texas. All four BCC representatives presented the workshop
"Growing by Serving" where BCC's Service Learning initiatives were highlighted.
Numerous helpful suggestions were provided by conference attendees to give
our program a boost. Approximately 250 individuals from the U.S. attended
this conference to explore ways of bettering our communities while connecting
these experiences to the educational environment of our high schools and
colleges.
