This is accomplished by integrating the optimum combination of state of the art technology and personal service to the college community. Our Values In accomplishing our mission we are guided by the following values that serve as a foundation for every action we take: IntroductionThe Burlington County College Public Safety Department is maintained as a service to those directly or indirectly associated with the college to protect the property of the individual as well as the college against loss, damage or misuse, to preserve order and aid in reducing any disturbances that might arise upon the premises of the college; to uphold and enforce the law in so far as the college’s interest may be involved. The staffing of the Department consists of the Director, an Assistant Director, an Administrative Assistant, a Safety Specialist and 28 (twenty-eight) Public Safety Officers with various backgrounds and years of experience and several student workers. The Department, with it's 28 (twenty-eight) officers, covers (2) two campuses: Pemberton, Mt Laurel and (2) two centers: Willingboro Center and Mt. Holly. The Public Safety Department provides in-house safety inspections in an effort to keep the college as safe as possible. During calendar year 2006/2007, the college received several safety inspections from county, state and/or federal agencies without major safety discrepancies and attended to numerous calls of injuries and illnesses. Some patients were evacuated to local hospitals. Injuries/emergencies ranged from headaches, diabetic emergencies, bee stings, fractures and cardiac emergencies. Burlington County College encourages the entire college community, faculty, staff and students, to report every and all incidents witnessed, regardless of the seriousness, to the Public Safety Department. The college Public Safety Department is manned seven (7) days a week and 24 hours a day. Additionally, emergency telephones have been placed strategically throughout the campus, some with direct lines to the Public Safety Office (Emergency Number 1100 or 2100). The Burlington County College Public Safety Department has full authority to enforce college policies. Violations of local, county and state laws, procedures and codes are reported to the local enforcement authority over that jurisdiction. All incidents and emergencies that occur on campus are entered in the Public Safety Department Report System and an officer immediately investigates regardless of seriousness. Minor incidents are logged and filed as incident reports for a reference file in the event of repetition. More severe or serious incidents are handled accordingly and may require contacting local law enforcement agencies. Violations of the Student Code of Conduct are submitted to the Student Conduct Committee; violations of New Jersey Statutes are sent to the proper law enforcement agencies. The college has an excellent working relationship with local, county and state law enforcement agencies. Burlington County College currently does not have resident halls/buildings. At present there are no off campus college clubs or organizations. The Public Safety Department on campus has access to all areas, buildings, classrooms, custodial closets, offices, etc. The parking lots, walkways and outside patios are well illuminated, patrolled and monitored by the Public Safety Department. Public Safety Department Officers are trained as either: EMT’s, Emergency Responders, or First Aid providers.
The Department of Public Safety is responsible for preparing and distributing this report. We work with many other departments and agencies, such as the Offices of the Vice President of Students Services and local police departments to compile the information.
Public Safety ServicesPatrol Units | Lockouts | Jump Starts | Escorts | Emergency Medical Services | School Closings | Emergency MessagesThe Public Safety Department offers a wide variety of services to the college community as an added measure to insure safety and security: services such as jump starting dead batteries; unlocking car doors for those who locked their keys inside; an escort service to and from the parking lots or remote classrooms and all necessary assistance is offered to the physically challenged. Additionally, though various methods, everyone is encouraged to go to their cars at night in groups of two or more for added protection. Patrol UnitPublic safety is an important issue with Burlington County college and that is why the Public Satiety Department provides motorized, foot and bicycle patrols on campus.
LockoutsCall the Public Safety Office nearest you or go to any of the in-house phones and dial the Public Safety Office. Please give your location and a uniformed officer will be dispatched to your location. You will be asked to sign a waiver form to allow us to enter your vehicle and before you know it you will be on your way.
Jump StartsIf your car won’t start and you need assistance, please call the Public Safety Office nearest you.
EscortsIf you can’t use the buddy system, Call Us! We will escort you to your vehicle no matter where on campus you are parked. There are Officers out and about on campus at all times. Go to any black in-house telephones, which are located in all buildings on campus for your convenience and dial Public Safety. Please give your location and a uniformed officer will be happy to assist you to your vehicle.
Emergency Medical ServicesThe Burlington County College Public Safety Department currently employees several New Jersey Department of Health State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians, as well as Emergency First Responders. Emergency MessagesEmergency messages for students attending Burlington County College will be accepted by the Public Safety Department. Callers will be asked the nature of the emergency and a call back number. All other messages cannot be accepted, as Burlington County College does not have a public address system. Classes will not be interrupted except for an extreme emergency. It is the responsibility of each student to inform family and friends that personal messages will not be accepted. Please indicated if the student is in a special program.
