The Burlington County College Sculpture Garden on the Pemberton campus has been in existence since 1988. An arena for the exhibition of contemporary sculpture, it continues to broaden the aesthetic awareness of thousands of people. Originally intended to showcase the works of local artists, its scope has expanded to include a much wider geographic area. Participating artists have come from as far away as Canada, California, Florida, Washington, and Minnesota, and from as close as New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Sculptors are invited to submit works for the annual competition which is judged by a different judge each year. Approximately eight works are selected for each show. Selected artists receive a stipend to exhibit their works for a one-year period, but some choose to leave their sculptures for an additional year, adding a sense of continuity to the sculptural presence on campus. Some sculptures have remained to become a part of the College’s permanent collection.
