Established in 1988, the Burlington County College Sculpture Garden located on the Pemberton campus, is an arena for the exhibition of contemporary sculpture. It has continually broadened the aesthetic awareness of thousands of people. Originally intended to showcase the works of local artists, the scope has expanded to include a much wider geographic area. Participating artists have come from as far away as Canada, California, Florida, Washington and Minnesota; and from as close as New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Each year sculptors are invited to submit works for the annual competition, in which winners are selected by the Burlington County College Art Committee. Approximately four to eight pieces are chosen for each show. Artists will receive a stipend to exhibit their works for a one-year period, although some choose to leave their sculptures for an additional year to add a sense of continuity to the sculptural presence on campus. Some of the sculptures have remained to become a part of the College’s permanent collection.
