LIVE PERFORMANCE CRITIQUE
GUIDELINES
Critiques must be typed, approximately three to four
pages in length using Times New Roman and a 12 point font.
Papers must include a cover page with the following
information.
Your
name
Course and
section numbers
Title,
Author and Producing Organization
You must staple the playbill and the ticket stub from the
play you critique to the back page of your paper
The critique should discuss the following:
- Theatre
and producer of the play
- Elements
used in the “pre-show” to ease you into the role of an audience member
- Brief
outline of the plot
- The
effectiveness of the actors in their role as the character
- The
climax of the play and how it was enhanced
- The
technical aspects i.e. set, costumes, make-up, sound, lighting
- Discuss
innovative aspects of the production
- Historical
information about the play or the time period
- The
universal message or theme
Go to the theatre with an open mind! Be receptive to what you see, what you hear
and what you feel!
Papers must be submitted in person, preferably on the
assigned class date.
Late papers will be docked one point per calendar day.
No papers will be accepted electronically.
No papers will be accepted during final exam week.
