The Career Adaptive Learning Literacy (CALL) Lab has been developed for Burlington County College under several Carl Perkins Vocational Education grants funded through the State of New Jersey. The CALL Lab, on the second floor of the Integrated Learning Resource Center in Room 203, is designed to provide self-paced, self-administered vocational skills training primarily for students who have special needs. The lab is wheelchair accessible and provides special tools and technologies to assist those individuals with hearing, visual impairments, and learning disabilities. The lab is also open to residents of Burlington County who have a disability.

      Equipment available in the CALL Lab includes:

  • Hewlitt Packard PC's running an updated Windows operating system including basic function  programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, & MS Access as well as high speed internet access with both Netscape™ and Internet Explorer™ browsers available.
  • Macintosh G4's providing basic programs  such as CoWriter for Mac, iMovie, Apple DVD player, and internet access via Internet Explorer™

      Career & Skill building software includes:

          MEDS helps prepare student and Graduate nurses for licensing examinations
          Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing teaches skills through self administered exercises
          NCLEX-RN assists students in preparing for the NCLEX exam
          Visions Career software offers a detailed, interactive exploration of thousands of vocation

        Assitive equipment and software includes:

           AlphaSmart 2000 portable word-processing laptop systems
           Aladdin Genie Print Magnifier
magnifies text and graphics for reading  
           Dragon Dictate Naturally Speaking  allows dictation directly into the PC
         
Intelikeys Keyboard uses a touch-sensitive response w/ audible stroke recognition
           Jaws for Windows* text-to-speech screen reader for those with limited vision
           Magic Wand keyboard uses a stylus for typing 
           Arkenstone Open Book* scans text and converts it to "spoken" language. 
           PwWebSpeak a web browser with speech to guide students around the Internet
           WiVik 2 an onscreen keyboard used mainly with Headmaster 
           WYNN* converts scanned documents-to-speech & offers broad data control & web access
          
Quicktionary Reading Pen handheld device that "speaks" the text it scans line by line
           PRISMA** camera creates a finely controlled, digitally magnified image direct to the PC

Bookshare.org - This site gives registered users access to thousands of pre-scanned titles. You are able to download the files and have your assistive software read them to you at your leisure. You are even able to place requests to have specific titles scanned for you.
