Board Policies



911 : Drug-Free Workplace and Campus

It is an objective of Burlington County College to provide a safe, drug free environment for members of the College and community and to comply with the provisions of the Drug-Free Workplace Act and other applicable laws. Receipt of federal grant funds is conditioned upon the agreement of the College to comply with federal law; failure to do so may result in a grant award being suspended or terminated and could result in the debarment of the College from receiving any deferral grant.

This policy is designed to promote a safe and drug-free workplace in order to help protect the health and safety of the members of the college community, provide assistance to themselves as suffering from drug dependency and/or abuse, and to properly safeguard the assets and interests of the College.

The abuse of drugs in the workplace, among other things can reduce job efficiency, increase absenteeism and use of sick leave, and most importantly jeopardize the safety and lives of members of the College community. Drug abuse can cause serious harm to the body and the mind. Abusing drugs may result in overdose, dependency, ill health, and/or accidents. Individuals who abuse drugs may also face legal economic, and/or personal problems.

913 : Civility on Campus

Burlington County College was founded by the citizens of the county in the belief that learning is a lifelong activity, and that education can improve the quality of life for individuals and society. The college provides educational and employment opportunities at various sites, including its main campus.

Burlington County College is a community of individuals. As such, we must always strive to recognize the dignity and worth of each member of our community. It is, therefore, the policy of the college that each individual, regardless of status (student, administrator, support staff or faculty member) must treat every other individual, irrespective of status, rank, title or position, with dignity and respect.

There above identified behaviors are merely suggestive of the type of conduct that would violate this policy, The aforementioned are not intended to be inclusive and any other behavior, action or conduct that impedes, interferes or frustrates the efficiency or productivity of the work and/or academic environment are prohibited.

It is not the intention of the college to interfere with, impede, frustrate or subvert any individual’s constitutional or statutory right. Rather, it is the intent of the college to promote and foster an atmosphere and environment condusive to the academic mission of the school.

914 : Racial/Ethnic Harassment

Our community depends on trust and civility. A willingness to recognize the dignity and worth of each person at Burlington County College is essential to our mission.

The college celebrates the diversity of its community. We come from many different backgrounds and include different races, religions, and ethnic ancestry. Learning to understand the differences among us, as well as the similarities, is an important dimension of education, one that continues for a lifetime. Tolerance alone, however, is not enough. Respect and understanding are also needed. We should delight in our differences, and should seek to appreciate the richness and personal growth, which our diversity provides us as members of this community.

It is, therefore, the intention of Burlington County College to provide equal opportunity to qualified individuals in the operation of its programs in work and academic environments that are conducive to the achievement of work and academic goals, and free from any implicit or explicit forms of racial or ethnic harassment. For the purposes of this policy, the term racial/ethnic harassment refers to any behavior, verbal or physical, that attacks, demeans or offends individuals on the bases of race, ethnic or national origin.

The college regards such behavior, whether verbal or physical, as a violation of the standards of conduct required of all persons associated with the institution. The prohibition against racial/ethnic harassment applies to all interaction on the college campus, in college facilities or within the context of college related activities. We expect members of our college community to demonstrate a basic generosity of spirit that precludes expressions of bigotry. Accordingly, those inflicting such behavior on others are subject to the full range of the college’s disciplinary actions, including separation from the institution.

916 : Sexual Harassment

As an employer and educational institution, Burlington County College is committed to eradicating sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is prohibited because it is intimidating and an abuse of power and inconsistent with the College’s policies, practices, and philosophy. Sexual harassment in any form will not be tolerated.

Sexual harassment is a matter of particular concern to an academic community in which students, faculty, administrators, and staff must rely on strong bonds of intellectual trust and dependence. It is therefore the intention of the College to provide work and academic environments that are conducive to the achievement of work and academic goals, and free of any implicit or explicit forms of sexual harassment.





Administrative Procedures



154 : Procedure for Handling Alleged Charges of Discrimination by the Disabled

It is the express policy of Burlington County College to encourage disabled individuals who meet the definition of disabled individuals provided by the Americans with Disabilities Acts (ADA) who believe she/he has been discriminated against on the basis of her/his disability to come forwards and present such claim to the College.

The College will seriously and sincerely address any such allegations and attempt to resolve them through informal and formal procedures in an amicable, confidential, professional, and mutually satisfactory manner.

The intention of this procedure is to permit an employee or student to present an alleged complaint of discrimination on the basis of disability to the College in a confidential and non-threatening environment and to provide the College with the opportunity to handle the complaint with prompt, fair, sensitive, and confidential consideration.

Toward this end, this procedure has been established to handle the receipt, review, investigation, and the resolution of complaints of discrimination on the basis of disability.

The College believes that a readily and clearly understood and adhered to procedure will encourage the reporting and resolution of complaints.

155 : Complain & Investigation Procedures Charges of Racial/Ethnic Harassment


It is the policy of Burlington County College to encourage anyone who believes that she or he is a victim of racial/ethnic harassment, or anyone with personal knowledge of racial/ethnic harassment, to come forward and report such harassment to the College.

The College will investigate any such allegations and attempt to resolve them through informal or formal procedures. The intention of this procedure is to permit a student or employee to present a complaint of racial/ethnic harassment to the College in a confidential and non-threatening environment, and to provide the College with the opportunity to investigate the complaint and take prompt corrective action.

156 : Complain & Investigation Procedures for Charges of Sexual Harrassment
