Come to Burlington County College to see Maya Angelou. Dr. Maya Angelou, distinguished author, poet, and historian, spoke at The Enterprise Center at BCC on the Mount Laurel Campus on Thursday, November 3, 2005. Doors are scheduled to open at 6 pm followed by Dr. Angelou’s appearance at 7 pm.

Dr. Angelou is widely known for her best selling books and numerous magazine articles that have earned her Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award nominations. She was among the first African-American women to hit the bestsellers lists with “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” one of her most popular novels.

Dr. Angelou is also recognized for her ability to speak many languages as well as her career in drama and dance. She has received numerous honorary degrees and was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to the National Commission on the Observance of International Woman’s Year and by President Ford to the American Revolutionary Bicentennial Advisory Council. In 1993, Dr. Angelou received the honor of reading one of her poems at President Clinton’s inauguration. Dr. Angelou has the unique ability to captivate audiences through wisdom and words.
