WHAT IS GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY?

Geospatial Technology is a field that involves the collection and analysis of geographic data. The tools used in this field include geographic information systems (GIS), the global positioning system (GPS), and remote sensing. With these tools, users can capture, store, analyze, and display a vast array of data.

Geospatial Technology is becoming more and more prevalent in a variety of occupations. Any discipline that is interested in analyzing the spatial distribution of any particular feature or event would be served greatly by the application of geospatial technologies. These fields commonly include, but are not limited to, business administration, scientific research, law enforcement, utility operations, and government administration.

Burlington County College (BCC) had developed a program in Geospatial Technology that is designed to train students in the use and application of a GIS, GPS, and remote sensing. Students can achieve an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) or Professional Certificate in Geospatial Technology and can gain employment in the application of these technologies toward a variety of problems and issues.
