ESL 081 ESL Speech and Pronunciation I

This basic course will provide intensive drill in the phonetics and intonation of the English language for the non-native speaker of English. The student will practice the phonics and intonation in essential daily speech patterns to improve speaking skills and do active, guided listening of recorded materials to improve listening skills.

ESL 082 ESL Speech and Pronunciation II

This intermediate course is designed for non-native speakers of English who wish to develop more correct pronunciation with improved intonation. Students’ pronunciation difficulties will be addressed as well as their use of idiomatic English. There will be guided listening of recorded materials to improve listening skills in both academic and personal settings.

ESL 083 ESL Speech and Pronunciation III

This advanced course is designed for non-native speakers of English who wish to reduce accent and develop near-native fluency with idiomatic expressions. The students will focus on the organization and presentation of formal reports. Academic language in class discussions will be emphasized. More advanced listening will be provided and note- taking strategies will be practiced to help students prepare for the college- level communication demands.
