Barons Fall In the Finals

BCC's men's soccer team lost in the Region XIX finals to Mercer County Community College in the Region XIX Tournament in a 1 – 0 hard fought loss.  This playoff run ends one of the most successful seasons in recent years. 

“I am very proud of the way our young men have played all season long,” said Head Coach Craig Dewar. “The team got better as the season progressed and overcame some obstacles to get to the Region final.”

The Barons finish the season with an overall record of 12 – 4 – 1.

Lady Barons Win Region XIX Title

BCC's women's soccer team captured the Region XIX championship with its 2 – 1 overtime victory over Mercer County Community College in the Region XIX tournament. 

The scoring was started by BCC in the first half on a goal by Dawn Dixon with the assist going to Cassandra Worthy.  BCC's Tory Hunt shut out the MCCC Vikings the half registering nine saves.  The second half saw Mercer scoring at the 18.57 mark to tie the game.  At the end of regulation the game was tied at one each.  The overtime period was a hard fought, but with just 4 seconds left on the clock Worthy scored with the assist from Aimee Bergman to capture the Region XIX crown.

Worthy's performance earned her the Offensive Player of the Game Award while teammate Jocelyn Prescott earned the Defensive Player of the Game honor.  “The girls really came through today,” said Head Coach Jeff Brown.

“Everyone did their part for an overall team victory. It's a great accomplishment to win the Region Championship, but to do it without losing a game all season is a testament to the hard work and dedication of this team” continued Brown. “We are looking forward to the District Tournament and hope to continue on to nationals.”

BCC will now face Monroe College in the District G Championship Tournament in Rhode Island starting this Friday, November 5.

Barons Rout Their Way to the Championship

The Burlington County College men's soccer registered a big win with a 7 – 0 shutout victory in the semi-finals of the Region XIX tournament over Delaware Tech. Stanton.  With the win, the team now advances to the championship round of the tournament.

Seven players scored on the day and were led by Kresimir Nurnberger and Ferbando Gatica, who each scored a goal and each had one assist. Matko Novak added to the scoring with one goal and one assist. William Bernal registered the shout out for BCC with eight saves on the day. 

Head Coach Craig Dewar was excited about the win.  “That was a great playoff victory for us,” said Dewar.  “This win just shows how far this team has come this season having lost in the regular season to Del. Tech. I am really proud of the way the team is playing right now and hope it continues into the finals,” stated Coach Dewar. 

The Barons will face Mercer County College for the Region XIX title this Saturday at 7:30 PM at NJIT.  The team is now 11- 3 – 1 on the season.

Lady Barons to the Region Finals

The Burlington County College women's soccer advance to the championship round of the Region XIX tournament with a shutout victory against the Hawks from Lackawanna College. 

With the shutout, the Lady Barons have now shut out 11 of their last 12 opponents.  Combining on the shutout were goalkeepers Victoria Hunt and Kelsey Feret.  Hunt had five saves in the first half while Feret had three in the second half.  The scoring for the day was started early.  In just 30 seconds of play in regulation Aimee Bergman scored on the assist from Chelsea Grace. 

“Todays game was a typical hard fought game,” said Head Coach Jeff Brown. “Everyone pulled through and did a great job today,” Brown added.  BCC, who is the number one seed in the tournament as well as Garden State Athletic Conference Champions, will face Region XIX rivals Mercer County College for the Region XIX crown on Saturday at 5:00 at NJIT. 

The team now boasts a continued perfect season with a 12 – 0 record.

Barons Down Fourth Ranked Essex

The Burlington County College Barons soccer team registered a huge win yesterday downing Essex County College 2 - 1 in Region XIX play.

The Wolverines of Essex are currently ranked number four in the NJCAA national polls. After a first half that saw a strong defensive performance by both teams allowing no goals, the Barons broke through with an Alexander Root goal scored in the 60th minute. Root scored on the assist by Ivan Garcia. BCC scored again in the 75th minute with a goal by Ryan Lynch with Ivan Garcia picking up his second assist on the day. William Bernal was strong in goal for the Barons stopping 12 shots and allowing one goal with four minutes left in regulation.

“It was a big win for the program,” stated BCC Head Coach Craig Dewar. “It's a huge boost to our season knocking off two teams ranked in the top 10 in the national polls in the last week,” added Dewar. The Barons defeated the previously fifth ranked team, Community College of Baltimore County, over the weekend with a score 1 - 0. BCC will finish the regular season today with a game against Cecil College in preparation for the upcoming playoffs. “It's a good time for our team to be playing so well with the playoffs right around the corner,” said Coach Dewar.

With the win, the Barons up their record on the season to 9 - 3 - 1.

Barons Soccer On A Roll

The Burlington County College Mens Soccer team has been on quite a roll racking up four straight wins.  The winning streak culminated in a big win against the fourth-ranked team in the country CCBC-Essex with a 1 – 0 shutout victory.  Fernando Gatica has led the way thus far in scoring for the Barons while William Bernal has done a fine job in goal.  In the recent 5 – 0 victory over Region XIX opponent Delaware Tech.–Terry, Joe Butcher lead the way registering the hat trick with three goals while adding an assist.  The Barons sit in third place in Region XIX and are preparing for the playoffs.  Their current record is 8 – 3 – 1. The 2010 campaign for the Lady Barons Soccer team has been a success thus far.  BCC has not lost a game yet and sits atop the standings within both Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference.  Lady Barons goalkeepers Victoria Hunt and Kelsey Feret are currently ranked one and two respectively in the country in goals against average while Chelsea Grace is ranked third in Region XIX in scoring.  The Lady Barons Soccer team will look to enter Region XIX tournament play as the top seed.  Check out the Womens Soccer button for more results and statistics.
