ASL-103  Deafness & Culture  3 cr.  (offered during Fall and Spring)

This course is designed for students with no knowledge of Deaf American culture or its language, American Sign Language (ASL).  Training is designed to lay a basic foundation of knowledge about the Deaf American community through readings and videotapes.  Overviews of the culture's traditions, norms, values, and heritage; of the linguistical model versus the medical model; and of educational and legal issues are given.

Prerequisite:   ENG-101 College Composition I (which can be taken as a corequisite of ASL 103) 3 cr.

Corequisites:  ASL-101 Elementary American Sign Language I  3 cr.
