ALUMNI BOARD

The association is governed by a 25-member Board of Trustees. Twenty of the Board members are elected by the Association’s general membership. To be eligible for election, they must have completed an approved program of study at the college and be a member in good standing of the Association. Elections are held yearly, with no more than half of the Board positions up for election in a given year. A subcommittee of the Alumni Board solicits nominations each year and recommends an official slate of candidates.

In addition to the twenty elected Board members, the Association governing body includes three college employees designated by the college president, two currently enrolled students, and the executive director of the Association. The executive director, the only non-voting member of the Board, is the BCC Dean of Institutional Advancement and serves as official liaison between the Alumni Association and college administration.

Alumni Association Executive Board

President
Best described as a life-long learner, Michele Phillips first attended Burlington County College over thirty years ago. In 1979, she received an Associate of Art degree in Art and Design, while at the same time beginning a career in the insurance industry. In 2000, Michele was appointed to BCC’s Alumni Association Board of Trustees, desiring this time to motivate continued alumni interest in BCC, where she serves as Chairperson for the Alumni Website Committee and is the newly-elected 2006-2007 President.

Since graduating from BCC, Michele completed undergraduate and graduate degrees at NJIT, fully supported through a scholarship awarded by the Gates Millennium Scholars Program, and continues study in Information Systems, enrolled currently in a doctoral program at Nova Southeastern University. She works as a Computer Instructional Assistant and adjunct faculty member, employed at BCC part-time since 1999.

Vice President of Alumni Services
James Robinson, graduate of BCC, was awarded a degree in Human Services in 2005. He has been a member of the alumni board for a year and has recently been elected to the position of Vice President for Alumni Services. He has been employed with the United States Postal Service, for the past 30 years. James is married to Lillian Robinson with three children and three grandchildren.

It is his desire to enhance the activities of the alumni association and be able to have present and future alumni become familiar and more involved with the Alumni Association. His long term plans are to get directly involved in the Human Service field, either within the Post Office organization, an outside agency or entrepreneurial ventures. James looks forward to the opportunity to serve the alumni in the Vice President position.
