Newly Acquired Resources: One of the goals of the ETC is to act as a resource for teaching and learning materials. These materials include: periodicals, texts, manuals, software, hardware and multimedia products. In the past few issues you read about recently acquired hardware, including a CD-Writer and a VCR. Also mentioned was the purchase of image editing and sound editing software. In the March newsletter there was a partial listing of the publications that we receive regularly and store in the Center. (If you missed any of these announcements, you can read back issues of the ETC newsletter on-line, at the address below.) For the past few months, however, the emphasis has been to build the Center's collection of introductory and hands-on computer texts. As of July 1, 1999 the following texts are available as reference works for Faculty and Staff use:
Most of these books were donated by their respective publishers. You may peruse any of these works at any time. You can use them as reference works in the Center. The ETC sometimes lends texts out for independent study, depending on the circumstances. If you would like to borrow any of the above, contact Martin Hoffman. Also available are copies of the following three books:
Each of these three books are distributed to new, full time faculty. If you are a faculty member and need copies of these books, or if you need the IPSI software, please contact the Center and we will order them. |
Publication Schedule: The ETC Newsletter is published monthly during the Fall and Spring semesters, with no issue in January and only one issue from June to August. Current and back issues are available in the Educational Technology Center and on the ETC web site. (See Below.) Recently Updated Web Pages:
Summer Projects: Summer is one of the busiest times for the Educational Technology Center. Many Faculty and Staff are busy working on projects. Here are a few: WebCT Courses The ETC is currently assisting in the development of seven new on-line courses as well as the updating and/or upgrading of several existing courses. CODE Meeting On June 11th educators and industry representatives gathered at BCC to attend a meeting for the members of the Consortium of Distance Education. Martin Hoffman, BCC's Educational Technology Specialist was one of the featured presenters. His paper, entitled Building a Web Course was very well received. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation is available on-line at http://www.bcc.edu/mhoffman/code2.pptBCC's New Web Presence Well, the ETC can't actually take the credit for this one! The College Relations staff is doing a phenomenal job of re-vamping our web home page for the new millennium. It will be unveiled as part of the "Milestones at the Millennium" celebration later this year. Because of this, a great deal of interest has grown among people in various departments, who want to have their own on-line presence. Look for new or updated web sites from many members of the College Community. These new or updated sites will be announced, in the first ETC newsletter during the Fall Semester!
