Instructor: (Mrs.) Diane Veneziale
Course: Math 107 - Introduction to Statistics
Text: ELEMENTARY STATISTICS Eighth Edition, by Mario F. Triola, 2001, Addison Wesley Longman
SYLLABUS must also be purchased in the BCC College Store.
Students are required to have a scientific (or graphic) calculator.
Course description: This course is designed to provide the students with an understanding of the basic statistical concepts by which inferences may be drawn from observed data. This course is designed to meet the needs of students who are required to have a course in basic statistical concepts. Topics will include descriptive statistics, an introduction to probability, theoretical probability distributions, sampling theory, errors of measurement, testing the null hypothesis, linear regression equation and the correlation coefficient.
Attendance Policy: Students are required to attend all classes. More than 4 absences may result in an average being lowered one full grade. If a class is missed, the student is held responsible for the full requirements of the class. Promptness is also required. Prior arrangements must be made if a test will be missed, otherwise the grade earned is a zero. If a student misses the final exam, he/she will not be permitted a make-up exam unless there is a documented emergency.
Assignments: Students are required to complete all assignments, due on the next class meeting. The instructor will check for completion, not accuracy, of assignments as she deems necessary. These will count as one test grade at the conclusion of the semester. If you arrive late to class and the assignment was checked and is already being gone over, the student will not earn any credit for that assignment. It is a zero in the grade book. Consequently, you are strongly urged to be on time! Students are also responsible for all lecture notes and any assignments missed during their absence from class.
Grading
Policy: Grades will be based on 4 - 5 tests, an assignment grade as
mentioned above, and the final exam. There are NO make-up exams nor any
retests given.
