American Sign Language Club

1.  Name of Organization:  American Sign Language Club (ASL)

2.  Purpose and objectives:  The ASL Club will serve to provide a cultural and social avenue for students to interact and develop understanding and respect for the Deaf community and their language.  With an informal environment and access to social events, workshops, and speakers.  ASL members will be able to gain experience in their proficiency in the language.  The planned activities will help enrich the students' diversity by their exposure and raise the consciousness of the college community.

3.  Membership:  Active membership in the ASL club is open to all students of BCC who subscribe for the purpose and the objectives of this organization and meet any other qualifications stated in the constitution.  A signed statement to this effect is sufficient to initiate a person's membership.

4.  Officers:

President
Shall preside over all meetings of the ASL Club in an effective and orderly manner following Roberts Rules of Order.
Shall supervise the administration and enforcement of rules of the ASL Club.
Shall prepare a meeting agenda and present it to the Secretary.
Ensure planned events are carried out.

Vice President
Shall assist the President of the ASL Club in executive leadership of the ASL Club.
In the absence of the president, assume all powers and responsibilities of the  President.

Treasurer
Responsible for and keeping a record of all ASL Club funds and financial records.
Submit a budget on a monthly basis to President and Vice President.

Secretary
Post agendas for ASL meetings and keep minutes for all ASL meetings, including attendance.
Minutes are to be made available five (5) days after the meetings to the Officers and Advisor.
Obtain originals of submitted work from members to be made into packets for meeting and open forum discussions.
Elections will be held once a year at the beginning of the fall semester by secret ballet.  If a vacancy occurs then an interim election will take place in order to fill the open position.

5.  Meetings will be held only four times a semester (dates to be set at the first meeting of the semester).  Special meetings will be set up to encourage members to meet guest speakers or participate in outside activities.  A quorum of two-thirds membership is required for any item to pass into implementation.

6.  Dues:  At this point, no dues are being requested.

7.  Club/Organization Advisor:  Must be approved by the college on a yearly basis.

8.  The ASL Club will adhere to all rules and regulations of the College and abide by all conditions set forth in by the ASBCC Student Government.

This Statement of Purpose shall become official only after approval which is duty noted in the official records of the ASBCC Student Government.
